about

written at a personal writer's retreat in Lemon Bay, FL ... a Saharan dust storm was crossing south Florida, and all those tiny prisms in the air made the sunrise and sunsets amazing! Got me wondering how all the pain and beauty that experience in life colors our recollections.

lyrics

Dust
(c) 2021 G. LaMonte

Dust from half a world away
Now there's a haze on Lemon Bay
Paints my sunset end of day
Perfection

My fractured soul could not resist
Your passion, your pain, heartbreak and bliss
But this dust, this life, it all moves in
One direction

I was strong, I was stone
I hoped I'd be enough
Now I'm worn, and you're gone
And I'm dust

These broken pieces of myself
They change the story I will tell
Bound to me and ground away
To memories I can't trust

I hoped I'd be enough
Now I'm worn, and you're gone

And I'm a million prisms I can't see
They change the sky and I believe
They soothe the edges of the day
To violet and rust

I was strong, I was stone
I hoped I'd be enough
Now I'm worn, and you're gone
And I'm dust
